What to do

Round and about Porlock

Porlock is home to some 1,438 inhabitants variously made up of farmers, shopkeepers, bee keepers, newcomers, artists, horse, dog and chicken owners.

The village lies at the foot of the rolling hills and wide open wilderness of Exmoor, not to mention the infamous Porlock Hill. Fringed by deep valleys, wooded hills and rushing streams the village overlooks ancient marshes, the crescent moon bay and tranquil waters of the Bristol Channel.

Art galleries rub shoulders with the local ironmongers, butchers, pubs, tea shops and florists.

Hunting, shooting and fishing are the traditional recreational pursuits. With its red deer, herds of wild ponies and numerous birds of prey, Exmoor is a haven for nature lovers, walkers, cyclists and  horse riders.

For golfers there’s a links course in nearby Minehead  whose wide sandy beach, stretches to Dunster with it’s towering castle. The surrounding area has more than its fair share of  grand  National Trust houses and splendid gardens. The market town of Taunton and the historic City of Exeter is an easy drive, as are the Quantock and Blackdown Hills.
