The Oaks Hotel

What's in a name?

The oak tree conjures up a time when the pace was slower.  The inclination to smile at strangers, swifter.

When gents doffed their caps. Wicker basket creaked on squeaky bicycles.  And quality and service were a matter of pride. The Oaks Hotel lives up to expectation the moment you set foot on the entrance hall's polished parquet floors. Flooded with light, brimming with antiques, pictures and flowers. The kind of place you'd expect to see  Bertie Wooster pop up from behind a pot plant.

The perfect location

Situated on the coast in Exmoor National Park a minutes' stroll from Porlock, The Oaks Hotel is an imposing Edwardian building. The original owners managed to bag a coveted elevated plot on the edge of the village.

A taste of luxury

The architects cunningly designed the hotel ensuring the reception rooms, restaurant and  every bed room commanded glorious coastal views across Porlock bay. Original dimensions  and features have been jealousy guarded and retained.

About the owners

Tim and Anne Riley have been professional hoteliers all their working lives and have owned and honed The Oaks since 1985.  Their love of the art of hospitality with traditional values, are reflected in the décor, service and  ambience, not that they have anything against minimalistic boutique hotels. 'It's just not us' they sigh. Though having said that  wi-fi and flat screen TV's and no-nonsense modern amenities are (discretely) to hand

Awards

Although the philosophy at The Oaks has never been to actively chase awards, they are very proud to have maintained Red Stars, the AA's top award for outstanding hotels, for the past 16 consecutive years, it also features in the Good Hotel Guide & Michelin with a red entry.
